What is a server

DeFO App is an application built based on the decentralized social protocol DFON. In the design of this protocol, servers and rooms are very core concepts and components.

The server will be responsible for data storage, transmission, and business logic developed according to actual needs. Anyone can develop their own server. The room is the core and most frequently teature. Rooms are divided into different types,

  • Chat room: used for real-time chatting with multiple people, similar to groups

  • Broadcast room: used to broadcast messages to subscribers

So, what is the relationship between servers and rooms?

The room must run on a server. When creating the room, you must know which server you want to run. This determines where your data is stored and who you rely on for transmission. We hope to use this feature and the developer ecosystem to achieve truly decentralized social networking, allowing users to truly have the right to choose and fully own the right to process their own data.

In addition, for the convenience of users, the DeFO team provides the server that DeFO App connects to by default, which is developed and maintained by us. Please feel free to connect.

Finally, due to the shortage of developer manpower, the open source of DFON protocol, as well as the open source of DeFO App and Server are still on the schedule, and we hope to see you soon.
